Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Review

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a fun ride even if it doesn't live up to its predecessor.

Rating: 8/10

When we last left the Guardians they were all flying away with Star-Lord to start a new adventure. Now, we find they've found just that and during said adventure, Peter finds his father played wonderfully by Kurt Russell. Parts of the team start to go their own way then they all come together again for a big battle in the end. It's somewhat predictable.

The humor a staple of the GOTG series faired pretty well in this sequel. Drax was a lot funnier than he was in the original and each character had their own different jokes. The sequel offered up a bit more emotional complexity to each of the characters, especially Rocket, Peter, and Yondu.

The movie expanded on its cast as well, adding Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone as just a few of the new names on the cast list. Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a fun time, but don't expect it to be any better than the original. As far as sequels go though it's pretty good.

For Parents:
Language: a few uses of sh-t, ass, hell, damn, piss, b-tch, and d-ck. Use of the euphemism frikin'. (The language in this film makes it more appropriate for older kids.)
Sexual Content: A couple of suggestive comments and innuendos. Female characters are shown in skimpy clothes. Drax is shirtless for the entire movie. Illustrations show a man embracing many different females.
Violence: Yondu's arrow pierces many enemies, a couple of times in slow-motion. Other characters are kicked, shot, stabbed and punched. Several Ravager defectors are jettisoned out into space. A key character dies. A creature is gutted and its blood is seen. (The violence in this film makes it more appropriate for older kids.)

Ok for 12 and up.

NOTE: Stay after the credits there are five post credit scenes.
