Rogue One is an incredible expansion on the Star Wars universe.
Rating: 9/10
Rogue One is a Star Wars story. That's all you have to know going in to see this movie...
So watch it...
Rogue One tells the story of the how the Rebels obtained the plans for the Death Star. It begins with the story of Jyn Erso a young girl, who's father Galen, is a well-known architect. So, the Empire forces Galen to leave his young daughter and help the Empire build the Death Star.
Years later, Jyn is rescued by a band of Rebels. She eventually joins their cause, at first not very willingly.
Rogue One is one of the greatest Star Wars movies yet. It is far better than the prequels, and in my opinion better than Return of the Jedi. Rogue One has some of the most lavish set pieces to date in a Star Wars film. The mythology is expanded as well. The battles are epic and the plot fairs pretty well throughout the entire film.
My only beef with the film is cutting out some of the scenes shown in the trailers. I understand that Disney had some script rewriting, but they could have left in Jyn versus the TIE Fighter.
Overall, Rogue One is an awesome addition to the Star Wars saga and the sci-fi film genre in general.
Rogue One is on DVD/Blu-ray now. It stars: Felictiy Jones, Diego Luna, and Mads Mikkelsen. Rogue One is rated PG-13 for extended sequences of sci-fi violence and action.
For Parents:
Violence: Darth Vader kills several Rebel Troopers, one is impaled on his lightsaber. Several stormtroopers are shot point blank, and many others are taken out by explosions and other weapons. A mother is killed while her child watches in hiding. Briefly blood is seen. Scenes of dog fighting and skirmishes. The film has a very bleak tone. Rogue One is one of the darker films in the Star Wars saga. (The Violence in this film makes it suitable for older kids)
Rogue One is fine for 10 and up.
