The Golden Compass: Despite some controversy this novel was well-written. I still don't endorse some of the atheistic views it has. On the outside it is a fun fantasy novel. There is a BBC One series based on The Golden Compass and the rest of the trilogy coming out in 2018. You might want to look out for the spiritual themes in this novel.
Age 12/13+ (fantasy violence, peril, and some thematic material)
11.22.63: Lots of people know Stephen King and this novel is one of his greatest and newer novels. It is also a hulu miniseries that is just as good as the novel. For people who like time travel, this is the novel for you. Watch out for profanity
Age: 15+ (pervasive language, brief violence and sexuality/nudity.)
The Harry Potter Series: I haven't reviewed any of these books, but I highly recommend them. They are mostly clean. Also there is a new film coming out based on one of the prequel books, and a sequel to the deathly hallows via play. They are both coming out in 2016.
Age: 11/12+ (Fantasy violence, some suggestive material, some disturbing images, and thematic material)
The Road: Even though the movie came out a few years ago this is still a good book to read. Although it is a grim story, there is hardly any language or sex. The story shows that life matters, and is also interesting for readers who are looking for a good apocalyptic book that's not about TEENAGERS saving everyone!
Age: 15+ (brief nudity and disturbing images)
All the Light We Cannot See: This story is original. A blind girl in WWII and the nazis are occupying France and stuff happens. Her father is a museum locksmith and is tasked with protecting an artifact from the Germans. It is written very well. There is a non-graphic rape scene.
Age: 15+ (brief violence, disturbing images, and a sexual assault)
The Revenant: Leonardo Dicaprio can do no wrong. The Revenant won him his well-deserved oscar. The novel is just as good as the film. The Revenant is thrilling and also manages to teach a good lesson. That revenge isn't always the right way. There are some disturbing descriptions.
Age:16+ (violence and gore)
The Ocean at the End of the Lane: Neil Gaiman, author of the graphic novel series Sandman writes a brilliant novel. The Ocean at the End of the Lane is a perfect book for fans of the Peculiars series. The novel blends The Peculiars and Pan's Labyrinth. Some teens may not be interested in this novel because the protagonist is not a teenager! :)
There is some brief sexual content.
