The Scorch Trials
Rating: ****
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for extended sequences of violence and action, some thematic elements, substance use and language
Starring: Dylan O' Brien, Thomas Brody-Sangster, and Kaya Scodelario
This book wasn't my favorite, but I thought the film looked interesting and the critics liked it more than the original. The film itself was so different from the book, that I don't even want to get started. But, as a movie on its own it was pretty good. I never read the third book, but I heard that it took elements of the third and second book and threw them together. Here is a tip, the "Cranks" are pretty much zombies, so this is kind of a YA horror film. I'm a little surprised this film is considered a YA film. Even though it stuck within the borders of PG-13 and it was interesting, some of the ideas were kind of mature. Like harvesting brain tissue from teens? Its not shown, but still a little bit surprising. Overall, though as a film this was very interesting and much more interesting than the first film, because of all the apocalyptic landscape. Let me reiterate this one more time. Fans of the book should be ready for the film to be very different from the book.
