The Fault in our Stars (book) review

John Green writes his books really well. Yet, there is always some edgy content. I'm here to review one of the bestselling young adult books of all-time.

Language: One use of f-ck, several uses of sh-t, ass, damn, hell, piss, b-stard, b-tch, SOB. One use of p-ssy.

Sexual Content: Its obvious Hazel and Gus like each other. Hazel witnesses Isaac caressing his girlfriend's breasts briefly and wonders if it feels good. Hazel and Gus have sex but, pretty much all of it is off book and it is not erotic or graphic.

Violence: Hazel and Gus watch the movie 300. Bits and pieces of it are briefly described. Gus and his friends play violent video games. Someone coughs up blood.

Drug and alcohol: Hazel and Gus have champagne while in a foreign company. Hazel says she likes it, but she doesn't get drunk off it. Mentions of smoking and a reference to taking "pot".  Gus puts a cigarette in his mouth on several occasions, but never lights it. (iconic!) A character is a drunk.

Other content: A group of friends "egg" someone else's car. Some of the emotional stress from the cancer is sad.

Age Rating: 14+

MPAA Rating: PG-13 for thematic elements, brief strong language, sexuality, and a mild drug reference.

Recommended age rating: 14/15+
