Ghost Rider
Starring: Nicholas Cage, Eva Mendes, and Peter Fonda
Rating: ****
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for horror violence and disturbing images
Yeah, the idea and origin for this hero is pretty dark. But, this movie surprised me. When I picked it up I thought it would be another run-of-the-mill superhero action films. It wasn't. Johnny Blaze unintentionally signed his soul to the devil. The devil is tricksy? Am I right. So, once you get past that it seems like this film will be very dark. In the literal sense it is, Johnny can only become Ghost Rider in darkness or shadow. Really it wasn't all that scary. I kept thinking that the ghost rider was one of those heroes like Punisher. Punisher will kill his enemies sometimes. The only kills by ghost rider were Blackheart and his demons. No human was harmed by him. I was happy about that because in several sequences throughout the film I thought Ghost Rider WOULD kill humans, instead he just pushed them away. The only reason this got four stars is because superhero and action movies sometimes need an acquired taste from the viewer.
