If you're like me, you like wolves. That's why at the beginning of my High School year I read this book. In this book almost every character is a wolf. It has amazing messages about family and love, but also is technically in the adult book section. It seems to be written as more of a young adult novel though so, most teens should have no problem reading it.
The book takes place in the medieval times in Transylvania. Their is mentions of Vampires.
If you haven't already figured out David Clement Davies wrote Spirit: Stallion of The Cimmaron which was made into a film by DreamWorks Animation.
Language: A few "Hell" and "Damn"
Sexual Content: Two wolf mates "kiss". (Licking each other's muzzles(cute, non-sensual)). Two main characters have a minor romance. Two other wolves in the main pack mated behind every other wolf's back. Again this is not shown, the book just mentioned that the female of the two lovers is pregnant. But...
Violent Content: Both of those wolf mates die. The pregnant wolf falls a long way and is smashed on a rock. It is discussed that she is later eaten by birds. This wolf's mate dies by impalement in a human dog pit. In one of the most heartbreaking and disturbing scenes, a wolf puppy falls beneath a frozen river. Moments later another puppy of his pack sees him frantically kicking to try and get out from under the ice. Two wolf mates fight. The antagonist kills innocent puppies. The end fight scene is fairly intense. Humans, wolves, and wolf-ghosts all fight in one of the closing epic battle scenes. The battle and aftermath are described. Bodies are piled everywhere. One wolf is caught on fire and it seems to his friends that he is dead, but he survived.
Other: Two wolf females feed a human baby. This scene was very weird to read. Its not graphic or arousing, but just awkward. It does add to the story so don't think its a pointless scene. The deaths of some characters can be in horrible ways, also some of the dead characters were major. Added the fact that they're all animals. So, animal lovers better be ready. In the start of the story one of the wolf puppies disobeys his parents once or twice. Two wolf puppies don't survive out of their mother's womb. Wolves hunt and eat, so meat is described. Also, animals with the Sight, (the ability to see through other animals eyes and sometimes control them.) sometimes feel their prey's pain when they kill it.
